today was my first day back at my internship in awhile. since it was a thursday nothing really was going on. there were some animals that came back but really all i did was catch up with all the doctors and techs.
it was busy today. i got to see alot of surgeries. alot of dogs came in too. a poodle was put down but she was old and the couple that had her were so upset that they didnt want to see their dog before it got put down.then another dog was sick and the doctors had to do an exploratory surgery. the dog apparently ate a towel but when the doctors went in they didnt find anything. the only thing wrong with the dog was that it had ALOT of gas. when you walked into the surgeruy room you were hit by a nasty smell. but ones the air was relased from the intestines the dog felt better.
we saw a declaw today on a deformed cat. the cats claws came out of the top of her paws. it was weird. we also restocked the shelves, watched some dentals, and cleaned up. so things were going on but we couldnt really do anything but observe
i went into the room today with a patient. it was a puppy pitbull that was so cute. he was just getting checked over and nothing was wrong with him. then i cleaned the surgery room after they removed some lumps from a dog. that took like 2 hours to do. it was really hard to stand there for that long so thankfully i could walk out and stretch my legs but i feel bad for the doctors who were left standing there and couldnt move that much.
today was really slow. thursdays usually are. i cleaned and saw dogs but nothing really was going on. everyone else how there paperwork to do. i did file some returns and things but it took a short tme i was bored basically the whole time.
when i walked into the clinic today i noticed there was something in the surgery room. when i got closer i noticed it was a spleen and there was blood all over the floor. it was gross. i spent the whole time i was there cleaning up the mess. it seriously took that long. some of the ass. said it looked like the shining with the blood coming out of every seem of the table. it was really bad. after we cleaned it up we focused on watching the doctors and wat they were doing that day.
today was really slow so i went in the back and talked to the kennel staff. then after that was done i went up front and the receptionist needed some filing done and some rebates to be finished so i did that. after that.....i went in the treatment room and there were 2 emergency. one emergency was weird. the lady came in and was like "omg he was pooping and just fell over....and my moms a stroke victim." idk y she added the last part but she kept saying it. so we took the dog to x-ray and then tried to keep it warm. the other emergency was a dog that was chained up to a fence and then another dog came up and attacked him. he was in bad shape.
it was another slow day. we went in the back and talked to the kennel staff some more....interesting convos go on back there. then we practiced cleaning ears on Hobo, the cat that stays there. and thats basically it.
omg today was GROSS!!! a dog was gunna have an exploratory surgery because he ate something and they had to get it out. well dr. vesper decided she wanted to do a lavage. thats were u stick a tube down the dogs throat and fill the stomach with water to get the food or whatever is there to be puked up. well i was the lucky one to be holding the bucket. i was so closed to puking. it smelt so bad and i had to just stand there. but i couldnt look down at the bucket because there were chunks in there. ewww!!! so after that the dog still had to go into surgery because even tho it smelt bad barely anything came out. after the surgery tonya, our sponsor came in and wanted us to shred some stuff. it was a huge pile, we still werent done
well we finished the shredding and some other stuff and then the staff had a meeting. in that meeting they got alot of ffod and guess who had to clean it up, US! well it wasnt that bad i mean we did get some food out of it. so it was pretty cool. then we cleaned some tools and helped the treatment staff do some things becuase they had alot to do. a dog came in that was well idk how to explain it. its like trying to get flem out of your throat. i guess u try to coufgh it out. well thats wat this dog was doing and it wouldnt stop. so they tried putting oxygen in his face but it only worked for a little bit. after that they put him in a cage to settle down.
march 31 today a puppy was pregnant and she wasnt giving birth after already being late so the doctors tried to induce her. nothing. so the decided to c section and get the puppies out that way. well when the puppies came out i got to hold them and break open the sack and get all the liquid and mucus out of their airways so they could breathe. they were so cute and it was so amazing to do that. she ended up having 4 puppies....2 boys 2 girls. :) then we had to keep them warm so we used and heating pad and rubbed them every now and then.....other than that it was a really busy day. i cleaned alot and helped everyone out in anyway that i could
2 boy puppies and 2 girl puppies! You know what that means lol. Which will make some more amazing experiences :) My dogs are fixed, so I never got to do anything like that. But I'm glad you're liking what you are doing and find it interesting.
the days have been really slow lately. the past week its just been busy work or none at all and trying to find things to do. we watch the surgeries sometimes butwhen they finish before we get there we see the dogs. either we let them out or observe their exams. monday i got called up to hole punch some papers and i saw the grip of death on a really mean cat. it was funny to watch. then today i cleaned all the floors in the building. omg my hands were hurting!!!! i thought i was gunna get blisters. but i also got to talk to dawn while we were cleaning the floors and it made the time go by faster. but after we were done with that i had some time so i let some dogs out and helped a lady to her car with her food.
May 11 today was realy boring.there was nothing really to do when i got there so i just went in the back and helped the kennel staff to delint towels. we do that so that when your in surgery nothing gets left in the animal like fuzz of something. its a really long and tiring process. noone wants to do it.
ughh yeah the delinting towels does sound boring, i'm sorry you had to go through that haha. i read your comment in one of the journals and found out that you want to be a zoologist. that's really cool, i'm glad that by doing this internship you found out what you wanted to do.
may 12 we didnt really do anything today. its been kinda slow this week which really stinks since its my last week. i let some dogs out and helped some people while they were trying to clip a dogs nails that didnt like it.
may 13 i watched this cat that was so mad at the doctors be put in this funny looking thing. it was a ball that goes around the cats head. it looked funny but the cat was mad!!!! his name was george and hes a really nice cat until you do that lol
may 14 my last day :( it was so sad today. i sat around helping in any way i could. jasmyn cried when she left which i felt sad too. but i stayed alil longer and watched a surgery of a dog that ate a screw and a bead from costume jewelry probably. they couldnt find it for the longest time. then after that i went around and gave everyone a hug and said bye. they wished me well but i told them id be back to visit.

Do you ever get sick when you see the blood from the surgery? I would get sad watching the animals cry when they are being put to sleep.

Wow, you were really involved in the birth of those puppies. I'm glad that you're getting such good experience.
