  1. ok well i have been at North Ports City Hall for 3 weeks now and i have observed alot. I now know how to use a scanner very efficiently. I scanned all the 1984, 1985, 1986, and 1987 minutes from every commission meeting in those years. I load them onto a data base so we can throw the paper copies away and have room for future commission meetings. Its really cool to read all the things that were being talked about and that were important to the commission back then. I have learned alot.

  2. City Hall has things called ordanances. They are all the rules and regulations on certain topics brought to commission. Well I am also reaponsible for scanning them into our data base. I have learned by reading these ordanaces that North Port did not have an antenna for tv radio and anything that wasnt police related u need an antenna for untill 1966. Needless to say North POrt has always been behind the times lol.

  3. My first week at city hall i was just getting used to working with all the people. Patsy is the lady i work with most often. She is assistant City Clerk. She is responsible for putting together the commission agaenda, appointments, and anything else they need done for them. She sorts through their e mail and postage mail. So i got to help put the agenda together i had to make 3 coppies of everything that was going into the agenda. I had to make a copy for the public one for the media and a copy for Helen Rambieu who is our city clerk.

  4. OMG the color copier at city hall takes forever. I had to make 1250 copies of flyers for the 50'th parade and the copier took 3 hours to print all the copies. I had a couple problems too. The magenta ink ran out and i didnt get why it mattered because there was no magenta in anything i was printing. So i changed the ink then i got a paper jam which took like 30 mins to get iout because i couldint figure out how to work the copier. so by that time i had only 1000 copies made and only like 300 folded so i hope they finished them lol

  5. That sounds so cool; historical documents can be so illuminating, especially when they are specific to certain people rather than the general overview you get in history books.

The magenta ink problem used to perplex me too but it usually has to do with the fact that there are generally only three colors in the printer and certain hues often surprisingly require trace amounts of magenta. Another funny thing about printers -- my dad bought a printer AND ink AND photo paper for less money than it would have taken to buy new ink for our old printer.

  6. i dont think i am being fully utilized at city hall. I have done nothing but scan ordinances and minutes. I think that they give it to me as busty work. i think that the people being paid to work there think i am a joke and just stick me in a little cubical in the back of the office and send me in stuff to do for them.

  7. today i learned how Patsy and her staff put together the agenda. I had to firlst global and copy everything for the packet 3 times because we make an original copy for Helen (city clerk) one for some reporter dude who doesnt know how to use a computer (if he doesnt know how to use a computer what is he good for???? ohh making me make more copies that what lol) and one for commission. They use the agendas and then we get a copy back and i have to scan it into the computer and upload it to the data base which is somewhere in space lol and then people on earth can find and search any ordanaces or minutes from a certain meeting and have all they need to know about that particular meeting right infront of them.

  8. SO i went into the archives room today. its a huge room with rolly shelves its pretty cool I had a day dream about squishing my sister in one of them lol it didnt end up to well for her lol any way so in this room is every document that went through the city clerks department since 1959 when the city had its first ever commission meeting. Thats why i am doing so much scanning because the more i go through the more we can take out of the archives room and make more room for new documents. In doing all this scanning i get bored to i started reading them and i found out some really cool stuff like did you know that north port didnt have a tv/radio antena well an antena that didnt have anything to do with the police/fire depots untill 1966. I wonder what kids did i n north port for almost 10 years with out tv and radio. i would kill myself that would suck. I also learned that some of the kids that go to nphs are related to alot of influencial past politicans which is really cool. I hope to be one of those some day maybe not in north port but... we will see the posibilities are endless.

  10. SO today i get to figure out just how to set up the agenda. Its pretty complicated to get all departments that have something that needs to go on the agenda, to get them all to get all the paper work in that they want to discuss with commission. After everyone finally turns in all the appropriate paper work signed by all the appropriate people like the city manager it gets turned into Patsy. Pasty then gives me the pleasure of globaling and copieing and then placing them in their respected cubbies which are in her office. I have to label each item and match it up with the agenda and then place the paper in the cubby. Well thats all fine and dandy and everything untill someone adds or subtracts something from the agenda. then it messes up my entire system and i have to start almost all over lol not fun but hey when i get to be city clerk i will have someone to do it for me :) happy thoughts

  11. sotoday at city hall i learned how to make labels for all the cool folders that the city clerk uses. We have spacific numbers and colors for every spacific folder. Red labels are for emergency meetings of commission, black is regular advisory board and blue are districs like solid waste and fire rescue. I have to type on an oooollllldddddddd ANNNNOOOOYYYYIIIINGGGGGGG type writer. I first have to figure out just how to load the label and where it is lined up on the label and then i have to type out this long sentence about what is going to go in the folder and then stick the label on the folder and thing i have to roll over to this little drawer and pick out the year sticker the month the meeting is in and then i have to find out whos papaers are going in the folder and stick the initails on the folder and then file it. its alot less interesting that i make it sound lol i was getting so frustrated with the type writer because there is no backspace on a type writer and i kept messing up i used like 20 labels lol

  12. so today at city hall i learned how to take minutes of a meeting. I have to sit at a computer and listen to a meeting and type out important parts of what is said in the meeting. Its really hard becayuse i first have to figure out what they r talking about and who is talking about it and then i have to stay interested in what is being said that seems to be the hardest part for me lol and then i have to turn them into be checked and they tell me i missed the whole point of what they were talking abotu and i was angry because i had to do it two days in a row. I think that is the least favorite part of what i do at city hall.

  13. so today at city hall i learned how to answer the phones. Beth Lagare the phone answerer at the city clerks department sat and showed me how to treansfer calls, make calls, forward calls, hang up and how to be polite. These are things i will take with me where ever i go although i knew what i was doing my family owns a pool buisness and i am the number one phone/customer service rep lol

  15. so today at city hall i learned how to recycle old documents. I have to go through every paper in the box i had to get rid of, and look for any personal information, ssns, and anything else like that is not public record and then if i find nothing of the sort i throw it into a recylcing bin. thats it ttfn

  16. so today at city hall i didnt learn ne thing new i sat at my computer and typed up more minutes. I hate minutes they are so boring and its a waste of my time becuase i dont understand the point of why i have to do them and i dont like to do them so i dont really try to hard even though it is an important part of government. If i want a job in city government i should learn how to do them but i would definaly pefer not to do them.
