Today was my first day back at FWC. First i walked in an met with my sponsor again and caught up with everything. Then i went in the wet lab and starting to i.d some of the fish. At first it was hard by after i watched one of the guys i worked with, it got easier. But then it got confusing because we couldn't find the scientific name of two of the fish, so we made it fun by laughing and then we asked Greg and he helped us. So it all worked out. After i finished i said goodbye to everyone and left.
My second day at FWC was good. I first when to Philip and asked what i had to do today. Then i met with bill and he started me on doing data, but it wasn't working. So i I.D fish again. I feel like im learning more about all the fish scienific names. And i talked to bill about going on the boat again some time soon, and he showed me more around and were they put their reps of fish. Thats what i did today.
1/26/09 Today in my internship i helped Bill with his data sheets.I Would read the data to him and he would put it in the computer. He also told me how to work the website, so i will know how to put data in tomorrow. So hopefully tomorrow i start helping with data by myself
1/27/09 Today in my internship i helped Julia rep fish.I had fun and learn a lot of the fish scientific names. And being able to tell the difference between each of the fish. We did a lot reps and IDs. It was pretty fun. That's really all i did today.
1/28/09 Today i helped organize all their data binders. I had to make 2009 tabs for them, then i had to switch each binder old for new. And organize them in oldest to newest. It was a good way to learn organize skills and it made me learn more about where everything is.
2/2/09 Today i went in to my internship and we I.D. grass shrimp. i had a lot of fun and learn the different kinds of shrimp they are. It was a good day.
2/3/09 Today i finally got a new project. I have to put data in the computer about 2008 electric shocking fishing they had to do. I started doing some of the data today. After this i will have a lot of computer skills, so i think it will help me a lot in the future.
2/4/09 I did more of the data today. I worked hard and i talked to Philip about what i will do after and i will make maps after it, so that sounds fun. Then we went to the back and i saw the new car the FWC got, it was nice. Then before i left i got a new t shirt for being a intern. It was a good day
2/9/09 In my internship i did some more of putting in data. I am getting really good at the website i have to use. I know how to change things and work up with the new system. It was a good day. I also had to organize the binder i use for the data.
2/10/09 In my internship i did data,Toni went home sick, so no one was really in today, they were all on the boat. So it was really quite in FWC. So i just kept to myself and finished some of the data i had to do. But i still have a lot more data to do.
2/17 Today i did more data, and it was ok, i wasn't feeling that great so i just kept to myself. After i organized more papers. Then i was finished for the day.
2/18 Today i had to do data. Then i talked to Toni and Philip about the maps i will be doing after all the data is entered. I just have to get all the data in and it taking me forever. I have so much more to do.
yes i want to make a career out of but i want to work with real animals more than just identifying dead ones. Some fish we identify are snook, red drum, sheephead, trout, and mullets.
2/23 Today i did more of the data and finished more with the trips. It was fun and im looking forward to finishing all the data. It was a pretty relax day.
2/24 Today i finally finished all the data in 2008. I was so proud of myself and was glad. And i started a new project with Chris. I use excel and do formulas to make graphs to see how far the tagged sawfish went. I enjoyed it a lot and can't wait to finish my graph.
2/25 Today i finished working with Chris on excel. I got to make a graph after i finished doing all the formulas for excel. And it turned out good so i was happy. But then one of the graphs got screwed up so we had to start over. But it all worked out in the end.
3/25/09 Today i went to my internship and all i really did was eat food and talk with all the people that work there. They were having a big party for the staff and stuff. So it was funny and a good way to go back to my internship after being sick.
Its cool that you get both lab type experience, like identifying fish, and office experience like organizing data. It's awesome that you really enjoy both areas because your career will probably involve all types of work.
4/15 Today in my internship i had to clean up the wetlab. And organize all the different samples of fish ear bones. Then i put new data in a binder. Pretty easy going day, not to much to do.

It seems like you are having fun there. Sometimes it seems like it is boring for you but since you want to pursue a career in Marine Biology I know you will stick with this.
i was reading all the past couple of journals and it seems like you do alot of graphing work. When you go out into this as a carrer are you going to be doing mostly graph work. or are you like going to be like a fish doctor?
your internship sounds pretty neat especially the IDing the fish part. i hope you are enjoying it. do you actually get to touch the fish or do you ID them based on their physical appearance?
5/4 Today at my internship it was a normal day. I just helped id fish and did some reps. It was hard IDing some of the fish, i never saw some of them. But i had fun.
5/11 Today i reped some more different fish, it was interesting. Then i talked to Philip about my career goals and what i want to do after high school. It was pretty good.
5/12 Today i worked with Chris again on excel. I got to make a graph after i finished doing all the formulas for excel. And it turned out good so i was happy.
5/13 Today was my last day:( It was pretty good i really just talked to everyone there. And i found out i get to come back in the summer and go on the boat, im excited and can't wait to go back.

This sounds like a very interesting internship. What kind of fish are you identifying? Is this the kind of thing you want to make a career out of?
